Teacher Takes Down U.S. Flag in Classroom and Has Students Pledge Allegiance to Pride Flag

Teacher Removed for Mocking U.S. Flag

A teacher was dismissed from her role in a California school for making a mockery of the U.S. flag and promoting her own social agenda. Kristin Pitzen, the teacher in question, shared a TikTok video where she humorously explained that she removed the stars and stripes from her classroom walls because they made her feel “uncomfortable.”

Controversial Actions Spark Backlash

Following this, Pitzen urged her students to pledge allegiance to the pride flag. This prompted significant backlash from parents who were upset about her teaching children to “disrespect” the American flag.

Teacher’s Explanation

Kristin Pitzen, who worked at Newport Mesa School District in Orange County, posted a now-deleted TikTok video. In it, she explained, “I removed the American flag from my classroom because it made me uncomfortable.” She giggled as she added, “I packed it away, and I don’t know where it is. I haven’t found it yet.”

Pledge of Allegiance Instruction

When the Pledge of Allegiance was recited each morning, Pitzen instructed her class: “Stand if you feel like it; don’t stand if you don’t want to; say the words if you want; you don’t have to say the words.”

She remarked, “My class decided to stand but not say the words. Totally fine. Except my room does not have a flag,” laughing as she shared this detail.

Community Response

The community and school board strongly disapproved of the teacher’s actions. The video quickly attracted attention, leading many to express that Pitzen’s behavior was inappropriate and disrespectful to the American flag.
