The Harry Potter reboot heading for HBO is now in production. Though many fans aren’t happy with the idea of their beloved eight films going under the Hollywood knife, there are plenty who are excited to be getting a more “faithful adaptation” of the books.
The reboot will consist of seven seasons, each based on one of the books by JK Rowling, who serves as an executive producer on the new series. However, Warner Bros. recently confirmed that the eight Harry Potter films would remain at “the core of the franchise”.
While many actors from the films have expressed an interest in returning to play different characters, the series will ultimately see new talent take on the likes of Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid, and Severus Snape.
Further down the line, it’s expected that the series will lead to several spinoffs, as Warner Bros. rebuilds the Wizarding World following the box office bombs Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022).
Soon, actors such as Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley), and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), will be a distant memory where the franchise is concerned, buried beneath new content, and, more notably, new portrayals.
But before we see the highly anticipated Harry Potter reboot arrive on the streaming service, fans will be treated to another brand-new Wizarding World experience in the form of the upcoming online multiplayer video game “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” (2024).
“Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” is a reboot of “Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup” (2003). Since the 2003 game, there hasn’t been a Quidditch-centric title. The iconic Wizarding World sport is also criminally absent from the open-world game “Hogwarts Legacy” (2023).
But that’s because Warner Bros. Games and Portkey Games were working on “Quidditch Champions” all along (why include the game in “Hogwarts Legacy” when they can have two hits?). And soon, fans will be able to take to their broomsticks and chase their dreams (and the Golden Snitch, of course).
It’s one of many upcoming titles from Warner Bros. and Portkey, which is no surprise after the success of last year’s open-world outing. While some fans boycotted that game due to its affiliations with JK Rowling, to date it has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide.
Now, while we recently got the official trailer for “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions”, we finally have the official gameplay trailer, which gives us a proper look at the new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger in action as they undertake the iconic sport.
Of course, this is just a game, and these versions of the iconic Hogwarts trio — and every returning character for that matter — won’t replace the film versions, they may help fans accept the fact that Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson, and the other actors from Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) to Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), are done with Harry Potter.
On a sidenote, the game looks incredibly fun. It features “Single Player Career Mode”, “Online Competitive Mode”, and the option to create your own Quidditch Champion or play as one of many iconic characters, including Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, and Ginny Weasley.
Players will also be able to compete for the “most prestigious prize of all: The Quidditch World Cup!”
Per Warner Bros. Games, “Quidditch Champions” will feature “iconic wizarding world locations, characters, and references that fans will love” while highlighting “the rush of flying across legendary arenas as either a Beater, Chaser, Keeper or Seeker in a variety of modes.”
The game will be released on September 3, 2024, for PC Games, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch. For more information about “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions,” fly over to the official website.
